Day 1: Breaking up with my phone addiction

*I will be following the 30 day recommendations by Catherine Price in "How to Break Up with your phone". You can buy it HERE, get it for free on Audible with a 30 day trial HERE, or get it from your local library.

Task 1: Answer the question "What do you want to pay attention to?"

I want to pay attention to:
my family
friends
my spiritual relationship
music/singing
photography
nature
my own thoughts

Task 2: Use your phone lock screen as a reminder of what you want to pay attention to.

She recommends writing those things down, taking a picture of the piece of paper you wrote it on, and using it as the lock screen on your phone.

I'm putting a picture of my family on the lock screen to remind me to pay attention to the people who are actually around me instead of glancing at my phone.

Task 3: She recommends doing a 24 hour fast from your phone, and so she wants you to schedule a date to go 24 hours without your phone.

In the book, she says that if you follow her schedule it will be the 3rd weekend of this plan. I'm going to stick to her schedule, so I'm going to be planning to do a full 24 hours with my phone completely turned off on Sunday August 19th. I'm picking a Sunday because I know that it's a pretty chill day for me and I won't be trying to find directions to somewhere or missing any important phone calls. That means that I will be turning it off Saturday night and not turning it back on until Monday morning.

Task 4: Download a tracking app (I used Moment - it's free), to track how much time you're spending on your phone & answer the questions below.

1. If you had to guess, how many times a day do you pick up your phone?
I would guess 20 times

2. How much time do you estimate you spend on it per day?
Since I've already done this part, I know it's about 3 1/2 hours a day

She now stresses that you don't need to focus on changing anything yet, it's just about becoming aware.

Alright! That's it for today. I'm so excited to do this 30 day journey. Feel free to follow along, invite people, or comment below on how you're doing!
